Palm Springs. Where Frank, Dino and the Rat Pack went to cool their heels and Obama chose as his first post-presidential vacation. When the Hard Rock Hotel (HRH) Palm Springs reached out to me about a guy’s weekend getaway with James (Mantripping.com) and Mike (TheGentlemanRacer.com), I jumped at the chance.
Now I’ll be honest, this is my first stay at a Hard Rock property. I always defer to my wife when it comes to choosing a hotel. A comfy bed and clean room topped my list of priorities. But spending a weekend at the HRH Palm Springs really showed me how a fun location can really add to your travel experience.
The lobby of the Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs is a veritable rock museum. Hard Rock actually has the largest rock memoribilia collection in the world. I loved seeing Johhny Cash’s cuordoroy coat, Elvis’ leather jacket, contracts and letters from Frank Sinatra and my personal favorite, U2’s The Edge’s guitar.
Located right in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, you can literally check your car at the hotel valet and walk to world-class shopping and dining.
Upon arriving at the Hard Rock, we met with the Hard Rock management team to get a better feel of the Hard Rock Hotel’s vision. I found it very interesting that they actually have a “Vibe” manager, who curates all the music throughout the property and ensures that guests have the best experience possible. They also mentioned that the HRH Palm Springs is one of their test hotels where they try out new ideas and experiences prior to rolling them out worldwide. Cool amenities such as picks.® which allows you to check out an electronic guitar for your room; tracks.® which allows you to choose a professionally curated playlist to stream anywhere on the property and even take with you; and mix.® which lets you DJ your own private VIP party.
After getting the lowdown, we were treated to a tour of the Rockstar Suite. This is the place for major Rockstars and celebrities to stay when they visit Palm Springs. Including a living room, lounge, kitchen, bedroom and spa-like bathroom, the Rockstar Suite is the definition of luxury chic.
On Saturday, Jeep provided us with a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Overland 4×4, so we headed out to Joshua Tree National Park for a little off-roading. This was exactly a year after James, Mike and spent a weekend camping in Joshua Tree so we were thrilled to head back and explore more of this incredible park.
After returning to the hotel and cleaning up and an amazing, but dusty day, we were headed to the lobby which HRH transforms into an intimate music venue on weekend evenings. Local bands and traveling acts perform and we were treated to three amazing acts headlined by Sotomayer from Mexico City.
On Sunday morning, we were up early to head out for more off-roading along the San Andreas fault courtesy of Big Wheel Tours. We stopped at a cool oasis filled with towering date palms, then explored many canyons. Hats off our guide, Captain Ron provided us with a wealth of information about the fault and all of the interesting geological formations in the area.
The Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs surpassed all of my expectations. They strike the right mixture of being cool and trendy without being pretentious. It’s a great destination for families. My wife and daughter’s joined me for a night and had an amazing time exploring the pool and restaurants. I can’t wait to return to HRH Palm Springs and Hard Rock Hotels will be at the top of my list for my next destination.
